Renewable Hydrogen in Africa: Challenges and Opportunities

The African continent is at a pivotal juncture in its pursuit of sustainable development, with hydrogen technology emerging as a key player in addressing energy challenges. This special issue of the International Journal of Hydrogen Energy aims to explore the intersection of hydrogen technology, artificial intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things (IoT) in promoting sustainable energy solutions across Africa.

By focusing on innovative approaches to hydrogen production, storage, and distribution, this issue will highlight the potential of these technologies to contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Special Issue Information

The special issue will feature cutting-edge research and case studies that either demonstrate the application of AI and IoT in optimizing hydrogen energy systems or illustrate the techno-economic feasibility of the developing countries in Africa. Topics will include advancements in decarbonized or low-carbon hydrogen production methods, efficient storage solutions, and smart distribution networks.

In addition, the integration of AI and IoT in energy management can be essential for showcasing how these technologies can enhance the reliability, efficiency, and scalability of hydrogen energy systems in Africa.

Key areas of focus will include the socio-economic impacts of hydrogen technology adoption in Africa, such as job creation, energy security, and environmental sustainability. The issue will also address the policy frameworks and collaborative efforts required to support the growth of hydrogen technology in the region. By bringing together insights from academia, industry, and government, this special issue aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the current state and future prospects of hydrogen energy in Africa.
